Welcome to Skardu. . .
from a remote Himalayan valley...
to the global adventures of a blue-water cruising yacht
This website chronicles the adventures of the sailing yacht  'Skardu' as she sails
across the globe.  She has now completed her 2-year semi-circumnavigation
from England.  Over that time she has sailed across the Bay of Biscay, down
into the Med, across the Atlantic, around the West Indies, across the Caribbean
Sea to South & Central America, transited the Panama Canal, and crossed the
South Pacific via the Galapagos Islands, visiting French Polynesia, the Cook
Islands, Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji.  After spending the 2005/6 cyclone season in
New Zealand, she has recently been exploring New Caledonia and Vanuatu.
Latest Position Update  (17 August, 2006)
After sailing over 22,000nm (greater than the circumference of the earth!), and
collecting enough stories to last a lifetime, we've finally decided to hang up our
compasses, and return to normal life.

Since our last update we spent a good part of the first 5 months in New Zealand.
We explored much of the North and South Islands by land, hauled Skardu out of
the water and worked on her for a couple of months to bring her up to spec.

At the end of April, and with winter approaching, we sailed back north into the
welcome warmth of the Tropics.  We first visited the French territory of New
Caledonia, and then pushed on to Vanuatu… recently voted happiest nation on
Earth!  We hardly saw another yacht for our 2 months in Vanuatu, clocking up
some outstanding experiences amongst the many remote island communities
we visited. But these are all stories for another day and a future web update.

In case you are wondering, Skardu is now in the capable hands of Quintin's
brother, Tristan, who will be sailing her back to England over the next few years,
so keep an eye out for future Skardu adventures of a different ilk.

Website - What's New?
Well now that we've stopped sailing, it's time to start writing again.  After a 7 month
hiatus from updating this website, we've been busy sorting through our
thousands of photos and trying to make sense of all our experiences.  In order to
make it easier for us to write, and for you to read, we will be posting our
remaining updates as and when they become available.  Apologies to everyone
looking for their monthly escape from reality.  Below are all our updates.  Enjoy!
