ARC Postscript
12th December - 18th December

The post-ARC week was all a bit of a blur.  Days were spent fixing up Skardu - from damage
sustained in the Atlantic - and trying to source much needed spare parts.  The evenings were a
seamless blend of rum-punch themed celebration parties.  Some of the highlights for us included:

- Arriving in time by one hour for the Saturday night Caribbean themed party.  We had been
aiming for that for almost 2 weeks!

- Welcoming "Io" (one of the other Westerly Oceanlords) with a bottle of Pusser's Rum upon
their arrival at 7am the following morning.  This bottle was quickly finished, and we cemented our
radio friendship over a second bottle.

- Finally shaving off our beards.  In fact, Mark's mother walked right by him when she first arrived
, not recognizing him with his shaved head and full beard, and Quintin's parents had trouble
telling Mark and Quintin apart... the beardy-wierdy look HAD to go!

- Struggling for the better part of 3 days trying to figure out what was wrong with our water system.
(We replaced the automatic fresh water pump, and disconnected the foot pump, but it wouldn't be
until 2 months later that we would figure the system out properly).

- Winning the ARC  5-a-side football competition.  Since we were the only team to enter, we
rounded up some competition, and hence received both the winner's and runner's up prizes.
Since the event was sponsored by Carib, this amounted to 1+1/2 cases of beer.  Needless to
say, we managed to work out how to divide 18 by 10, and finished our prizes off in the pool.

- Prizegiving:  Winning an award for the best daily logs on the ARC, then Q jumping behind the
bar and pouring lines of rum-and-cokes down the length of the bar for hundreds of thirsty
competitors.

- Coming 29th out of 150 boats in the cruising division, and celebrating in suitable style...
