Sliding out of their careers to pursue a lifetime's goal of sailing across the globe, Mark and Quintin find themselves the proud owners and skippers of Skardu, a Westerly Oceanlord 41'.
Mark and Quintin first met at Harrow School in London at the age of 13, and in the last 20 years have traveled to all corners of the globe together. However, it was only after sharing a tiny 500 sq ft flat in Hong Kong for two years, that they knew they could endure each other long enough to sail together.

Brought up in Italy and England by peripatetic Swedish and American Italian parents, Mark Bruno was born to travel.
In the real world, Mark most recently worked in Silicon Valley for the last 4 years; the last few of which were spent at the forefront of the war on spam (the kind you read, not eat) for Brightmail in San Francisco. One of his ideal jobs would be to present for a Food Network travel show; but failing that he will have to make do with being the catch-it-and-cook-it man aboard Skardu.
When he is not "fascinating" people with one of his many inane facts, you can find Mark hiking in the wilderness, misquoting everyone from Churchill to The Simpsons and, of course, sailing.
Mark's introduction to sailing started with "Lark" a 13 foot "Sunfish" still in use by his family over 25 years later. However, his true appreciation for the sea really grew sailing and racing "Hobie Cat" catamarans in Hong Kong with Quintin. From there it was a natural progression to sailing and racing on larger and larger boats from Croatia to the Philippines. Mark is a qualified skipper in both the UK and the US.

Born in the African dust of Khartoum to an Australian Mother and English Father, Quintin Hinxman was brought up across five continents, living and travelling in far-flung corners from the very outset.
Sailing is a passion inherited from his parents: before he could walkQuintin was lashed to the mast on his parents sailing boat for forays down the Blue Nile! From there to learning the ropes on a 7 ft "Optimist" aged 7, coastal cruising on the family yacht in Malaysia, dinghy racing at each opportunity in various classes around the world, until Mark joined the fun for some high-adrenelin catamaran racing on the International scene in Hong Kong. More recent experience has focused on racing or chartering yachts in the Solent, the Mediterranean, Asia and Australia. Quintin is a British RYA qualified skipper.
On dry land Quintin is a British-registered Architect; he completed his stint in Asia working on the new Hong Kong airport for Lord Norman Foster, delivered the redevelopment of the Grade I listed Paddington Railway Station in London for Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, and has taken a sabbatical from his most recent role as Associate at John McAslan + Partners, where he ran major infrastructure projects, including the ₤350m redevelopment of King's Cross Station in London.
